Satan and the demons were formerly Angels created by God for His purposes in Heaven ..... The Bible calls Angels 'ministering spirits'.
Originally, Satan's name was Lucifer … 'The Light Bringer' … and it seems that he led the praise and worship of God in the heavenly courts.
However, he rebelled against God, becoming proud of his own great beauty and wisdom, which was foolishness in the extreme considering he is a 'created' being like all of us.
He managed to persuade about one third of the heavenly host to join his uprising and the result was that God cast them down from heaven and changed their names and natures. Thus Lucifer became Satan … 'The accuser + deceiver'.
He is, for a limited time, 'Prince of this world' - Jesus actually acknowledged him as such. But he was completely, thoroughly and soundly defeated by Jesus’s death on the cross at Calvary 2,000+ years ago …. The Son of God giving His unblemished life for our sins.
Satan knows he has a very limited time left, and he is determined to wreak as much death and destruction upon mankind as is possible before Jesus returns. Just look at the state of the world right now!
Satan is the embodiment of hatred and as such is totally evil. He only ever lies, and he even hates those who 'serve' him. … People who are Satanists and think that they will eventually be rewarded by their 'master' are in for a big shock. He is merely using them by entangling them in his web of hatred for mankind. They too will all ultimately join him in The Lake of Fire.
Descriptions of his powers, activity and personality are found throughout the Bible:
He is merely a created being, a former Archangel, and as such is vastly inferior to God.
He can only ever be in one place at one time and has limits to his knowledge and power .......
He can do nothing unless God approves … [Job Ch.1:6 to Ch. 2:10].
His word can never be trusted …. He is a liar and the father of all lies ... [John Ch. 8: 44]
He is the (temporary) ruler of the earth - [John Ch.12:31 ..
Ephesians Ch. 6:12 .. 2nd Corinthians Ch.4:4]
He leads an army of many demons … [Rev.12: 3-4] … The Bible describes Satan as having a personal army of demons … [from the Greek word 'daimon' … meaning 'intelligent'] … to assist him.
He can adopt a spirit form, reside inside a person … [along with his demons] … and influence their thoughts and behaviour:
He is described as a spirit who works within … 'the children of disobedience.' … [Ephesians Ch.2:2]
The bible describes how Satan 'put into Judas Iscariot's mind’ … the decision to betray Jesus .. [John Ch. 13: 2]
Satan ‘filled Ananias's heart’ … with the decision to lie to the Holy Ghost about how much he got for selling a field. - [Acts Ch.5:3]
His existence places humans in extreme peril, and the whole Satanic realm is not to be toyed with. This includes such things as tarot cards, ouija boards, crystals and all other 'fortune telling' and divining material .. [Deut. Ch.18:10]
He is described as 'prowling around the earth like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour' .. [1 Peter Ch.5:8]
